Monfils is getting back on track by defeating Shapovalov!

Big relief for Gaël Monfils who has just qualified for the 2nd round of the ATP 500 in Rotterdam. The Frenchman beat the returning Denis Shapovalov in two sets and as many tie-breaks, 7/6(4), 7/6(5). The continuation promises to be more difficult as Jannik Sinner might well be waiting for him in the next round.
Monfils held his nerves in a game without any breaks. He won both decisive games without trembling. Enough to reassure him in a difficult start of the season, in terms of results but not only.

The extra-sport event had interfered last Friday with the controversy of his disqualification from the UTS exhibition in Oslo. The Frenchman's relief was evident after the match point (see video below).
